Fabric Softener

Ok So a few people have been asking me for some of the recipes I use for well just about everything. So I thought that this would be much easier than trying to give it out to each individual that asks. With hope I will be able to put up one or two new recipes or a kind of how to a week. This will at least be my goal. I do not have pictures for this one put from now on I will try to take some photos along the way as I have found that makes it a bit easier.

The fabric softener is super easy to make and its totally changeable to fit your preferences. 
The basic recipe is:

• 6 cups water
• 3 cups white vinegar
• 2 cups hair conditioner
• essential oil (optional)
• rags or sponges (optional)

Super easy just mix the water vinegar and hair condition in a large bowl or small pail. The hair conditioner doesn't really matter what you use, I just picked up some sweet pea and jasmine suave condition for I think $1. Add in any essential oil that you may want for a preferred scent, I use a lot of lavender that just happens to be my preferred scent.

There are a couple of different ways that you can use this, just add it to a downy ball or add in to the washer as you would with any store purchased softener.

I personally choose to use it in the dyer, which helps with the static that always happens. For this I took an old beach towel, cut it into some small rags, about the size of a wash rag and just tossed them into the pail. Then I just ring out the rags a little and toss one into the dryer. The rags can be replaced with sponges its all really just what you like and to find that will require a little trial and error.

** A couple of notes, some people worry about adding the wet rags and them causing spots onto clothes. This has never been an issue for me but it is a valid concern. To address this, soak your rags in the softener and then hang them to dry. Toss the dry rag into the dryer in the middle of the wet laundry and poof no spotting.

I double this when i make it and its generally lasts for a few months. Use the rag set it in a tub when all the rags have been used I wash them and stick them back into bucket. 

Everyone kind of likes things a little different and using a homemade softener will be a bit different that a store purchased one. You will need to take the time to find this will work for you but I love it. It doesn't bother sensitive skin, it doesn't clog up the HE front loading washers, and it saves a large amount of money which could be used on vacations, or video games, or well anything really is funner to purchase than laundry soap and fabric softener. To Begin Again

I started this blog a while back, and then just stopped. The reason really doesn't matter just the fact that I started it and then stopped. Since then I have graduated from Western, and now am currently looking for a new job in a new town in a new state. I am looking to start a new adventure. Adventure is what brings fun into our lives. So here I go again, I am setting a goal to post here at least three times a week. It might be anything from a picture I took, something I cooked, a construction project I am building, or some crazy thing I am sewing. For today I am just gonna post the amazing looking canvas and towel cake that I made for my cousin, who lives in Germany... Her parents are coming home for a visit and they will take them back to her.

The Towel Cake

Ingredients 

• Two Bath Towels
• Two Hand Towels
• Four Wash Towels
• Three Silicone Spatulas 
• Two Wooden Utensils
• Two Silicone Whisks
• Ribbons and Pins and Pretty things

The Family Tree Canvas

I really love the way this turned out!! The middle is my husbands paternal grand parents. From there his Aunts and Uncles and the families that they created. The pretty things on the canvas were found at the local Dollar Tree, my all time favorite store to find the odd doo dads needed to make my world.

OK well that is about all I have for today, as it is time to start the laundry, spray the canvas with some clear coat, and get to cooking in the kitchen. I wonder what tomorrow may bring.
